Venue – Goethe University Frankfurt
As one of the three largest universities in Germany, the Goethe University with its five campuses is embedded in the European financial metropolis of Frankfurt. In order to lend weight and form to its claim to academic excellence, it has undergone enormous development in recent years.
The historic Westend campus is already one of the most beautiful university locations in Europe. The IG-Farben-Haus, built for IG Farben in 1929 by architect Hans Poelzig, is one of the most important administrative buildings of the era. Together with the “Casino” on the courtyard side, with the water features and the garden in between, the complex conveys an impression of unusual spaciousness and intimacy at the same time. The new university buildings, designed by Germany’s best architects, were also inspired by this spaciousness. Ferdinand Heide’s daylight-flooded lecture hall center, for example, sets aesthetic and functional standards. The Westend Campus has thus become a central campus.
